Warm Spinach and Artichoke Dip

When you need an appetizer that looks fancy but takes almost no effort, warm spinach and artichoke dip is your answer. This creamy, cheesy crowd-pleaser comes together in about ten minutes of prep, then bakes while you finish getting ready.

The magic happens in the oven, the dip emerges hot, bubbly, and absolutely irresistible. Your guests will think you spent hours on it, but honestly, you’ll be done before the party even starts.

I’ve made this dip dozens of times for everything from casual game nights to holiday gatherings, and it never fails to disappear first from the appetizer table.

What You'll Need

This dip is built on a few key players that work together beautifully. The cream cheese and sour cream create the creamy base, while the cheeses add that irresistible pull and richness. Frozen spinach and canned artichokes mean zero extra cooking, they’re already prepped and ready to go.

  • Cream cheese, Softened to room temperature, it’s the foundation that keeps everything smooth and luxurious.
  • Sour cream, Lightens the texture and keeps the dip from feeling too heavy without watering it down.
  • Mayonnaise, The oil content helps everything blend together silky-smooth as it bakes.
  • Frozen spinach, Thawed and squeezed dry, it adds nutrition and flavor with zero prep work required.
  • Mozzarella cheese, This is what gives you that gorgeous cheese pull and melty goodness everyone loves.
  • Parmesan cheese, Adds sharp, salty flavor that balances the creaminess perfectly.

How I Make Warm Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Here’s the best part, making this dip is genuinely simple.

Step 1: Preheat and prep your spinach

Turn your oven to 350°F and get your baking dish ready. If your frozen spinach isn’t thawed yet, do that now, then squeeze it really well in a clean kitchen towel to remove all the excess liquid, this is the secret to keeping your dip from getting watery.

Step 2: Mix the creamy base

In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayo. Stir in your minced garlic, the thawed spinach, parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined and smooth.

Step 3: Add the artichokes and cheese

Fold in your drained and chopped artichoke hearts, the mozzarella cheese, and red pepper flakes. Stir gently until the artichokes are distributed throughout and everything looks creamy and cohesive.

Step 4: Transfer to baking dish

Scoop the mixture into a 1-quart baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula. This is where it gets to work its magic in the oven.

Step 5: Bake until bubbly

Bake for about 20 minutes, until the edges are bubbling and the top is hot and starting to brown slightly. You’ll know it’s ready when it’s heated all the way through and looks inviting.

Step 6: Serve warm

Let it cool for just a minute or two, then set it out with your favorite crackers, bread, or veggies. It’s best enjoyed while it’s still warm and melty.

Nutrition Notes

This is a rich, indulgent appetizer best enjoyed in modest portions alongside plenty of veggies and lighter options.

What Makes This Recipe Special

  • Takes just 10 minutes to prep, no complicated techniques or special skills needed.
  • Bakes in 20 minutes while you handle other party details or finish getting ready.
  • Feeds a crowd and works for any occasion, from casual to fancy.
  • Uses simple pantry staples and frozen ingredients you probably already have on hand.
  • Tastes restaurant-quality but costs a fraction of what you’d pay at a party venue.

Variations to Try

  • Add a handful of crispy bacon bits or crumbled sausage for a heartier, more savory twist.
  • Stir in some sun-dried tomatoes or roasted red peppers for a little brightness and color.
  • Mix in some fresh dill or Italian seasoning for an herbaceous flavor boost.
  • Top with breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter before baking for a crispy, golden finish.

Angela's Best Tips

  • Don’t skip squeezing the spinach dry, excess moisture is the enemy of a perfect dip texture.
  • Grate your mozzarella fresh if you can; pre-shredded cheese sometimes doesn’t melt quite as smoothly.
  • Soften your cream cheese ahead of time by leaving it on the counter for 30 minutes; it mixes in much easier.
  • If your dip seems a little thick, a splash of milk stirred in before baking helps keep it creamy.
  • Taste before baking and adjust salt and pepper, the cheeses are salty, so go easy at first.
